Tax Preparer’s Profile
The Tax Preparer’s Profile is a form that allows you to save time by entering the information applicable to all client files only once. The information found on this form must be carefully verified, as it will be used for different purposes when preparing the tax returns.
A. Identification
Accounting firm’s address
This section allows you to define information relating to your firm. This information applies to all client files and is carried over to various forms.
For example, the name of the contact person you have indicated is carried over to the bottom of page 8 of the federal tax return, to the AgriStability Statement A as well as on the letterhead.
B. Options - Return
1 - Indicate the language of correspondence
This subsection allows you to define the language of correspondence to use for all clients. You can modify this choice for a given client file by selecting a different language of correspondence in the “Language of correspondence – Langue de correspondance” section of the Identification form.
2 - Province of residence
This subsection allows you to indicate the name of the province or territory of residence that must be found in the “Corporate residence” section of the Identification form. This choice applies to all clients files, but it can be modified for a given client file by selecting a different province or territory of residence in the “Corporate residence” section of the Identification form.
3 - Default taxation year (for new client files only)
This subsection allows you to specify a taxation year different than the one defaulted by Taxprep (based on the version of the program). The start and end dates of the taxation year entered apply to the new client files only. You can modify these dates for a given client file by entering different dates on lines 060 and 061 in the “Tax year information” section of the Identification form.
4 - Transfer the GIFI amounts to the return and applicable schedules
This subsection allows you to carry over the GIFI amounts to the return and applicable schedules for all client files. You can modify this choice for a given client file by performing an override in the “Transfer GIFI data” section of the Identification form.
5 – CRA’s Online mail service
This subsection allows you to request the registration for the CRA’s Online mail service for all your client files. Note that this service is only available for corporations that have already registered for the CRA’s My Business Account service.
6 - Print options:
- A notice entered on the last page of the T2 return
This check box allows you to print a notice at the bottom of the last page of the T2 return. The choice entered applies to all client files. You can modify the text of the notice for a given client file by overriding the input field in the “Filing information” section of the Identification form. It is also possible, for a given client file, not to print this notice by clearing the To appear on the last page of the T2 return check box in the “Filing information” section of the Identification form.
- A notice entered on the last page of each GIFI forms
This check box allows you to print a notice at the bottom of each GIFI forms. The choice entered applies to all client files. You can modify the text of the notice for a given client file by overriding the input field in the “Filing information” section of the Identification form. It is also possible, for a given client file, not to print this notice by clearing the To appear on the last page of each GIFI forms check box in the “Filing information” section of the Identification form.
- Do not print the disclaimer on the last page of the GIFI forms if the answer to the question on line 101 of GIFI Schedule 141 is “No.”
This check box allows you to cancel the printing of the disclaimer at the bottom of each of the GIFI forms when the answer to the question on line 101 is “No.” The choice indicated for this option applies to all of your client files. It is also possible, for a particular client file, to print this disclaimer by clearing the check box Do not print the disclaimer on the last page of the GIFI forms if the answer to the question on line 101 of GIFI Schedule 141 is “No.” in the “Filing information” section of the Identification form in this client file.
- A notice entered on the last page of the T661 form (Schedule 32)
This check box allows you to print a notice at the bottom of each of the T661 forms. The choice entered applies to all client files. You can modify the text of the notice for a given client file by overriding the input field in the “Filing information” section of the Identification form. It is also possible, for a given client file, not to print this notice by clearing the To appear on the last page of the T661 form check box in the “Filing information” section of the Identification form
- Customized notice
These fields allow you to customize the text of the notice for all clients files. You can modify this text for a given client file by overriding the input field in the “Filing information” section of the Identification form.
- Print only the lines with amounts for the years of origin
This check box allows you to print only the lines with at least one amount for the years of origin in Schedule 4A. When this check box is not selected, all the lines in the table with at least one amount are printed. This check box is not selected by default.
- Do you want Form Fixed Assets Reconciliation to be applicable?
This check box allows you to make Form Fixed Assets Reconciliation (Jump Code: 8 REC) applicable. When the check box is not selected, this form is not applicable. Please note that this box is not selected by default.
- Print all sections
This check box allows you to print all sections of Schedule 31. When this check box is not selected, only the sections with at least one value are printed. This check box is selected by default.
7 - T2 line 270: Did the corporation use the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) when it prepared its financial statements?
This subsection allows you to define the answer that must be indicated on line 270 of the T2 return for all client files. However, you can modify this answer for a given client file by entering another data item on line 270 in the “Filing information” section of the Identification form.
8 - T2 line 920: The return was prepared by a tax preparer for a fee
This check box, which is selected by default, allows you to define the answer to be indicated on line Was the return prepared by a tax preparer for a fee? (T2 line 920) of Form Identification (Jump Code: ID) for all your client files. However, you can modify the answer to this question for a particular client file using an override in Form Identification.
9 - T661 line 175: Update the information on the form based on the preparer profile selected in the Identification form.
This check box, which is selected by default, allows you to identify the firm or the company as the business that completed Form T661. This choice applies to all client files, but you can modify the answer to this question for a given client file using an override in Part 10 of Form T661.
10 - ACB: When there is a disposition in the taxation year, transfer data to Schedule 6
This check box, which is selected by default, allows you to ensure that the data is transferred to Schedule 6 when there is a disposition in the taxation year for all returns. However, you can also enable the transfer of data to Schedule 6 for certain returns only. To do so, clear the ACB: When there is a disposition in the taxation year, transfer data to Schedule 6 check box in the Tax Preparer’s Profile, then, where applicable, select the check box of the same name in Form Tracking the Adjusted Cost Base (Jump Code: ACB) when preparing the returns for which you want the transfer to be performed.
11 – Schedule 1 line 112: Charitable donations and gifts from Schedule 2
The check boxes in this subsection allow you to indicate to the program which amount to use for charitable donations and gifts from Schedule 2 on line 112 of Schedule 1 (Jump Code: 1) for all client files. By default, none of these boxes are selected. These boxes allow you to add the amount from line 8522 of the GIFI (Jump Code: G9367), the total amount of donations and gifts from Schedule 2 (Jump Code: 2) or any other amount. You will be able to modify this choice for a particular client by overriding the corresponding boxes on line 112 of Schedule 1.
12 – Schedule 1 line 118: Scientific research expenditures deducted per financial statements
The check boxes in this subsection allow you to indicate to the program which amount to use for scientific research expenditures deducted per financial statements on line 118 of Schedule 1 (Jump Code: 1) for all client files. By default, none of these boxes are selected. These boxes allow you to add the amount from line 9282 of the GIFI (Jump Code: G9367), the amount from line 380 of Form T661 (Jump Code: 661) or any other amount. You will be able to modify this choice for a particular client by overriding the corresponding boxes on line 118 of Schedule 1.
13 – Schedule 1 line 121: Non-deductible meals and entertainment expenses
The check boxes in this subsection allow you to indicate to the program which amount to use for non-deductible meals and entertainment expenses on line 121 of Schedule 1 (Jump Code: 1) for all client files. By default, none of these boxes are selected. These boxes allow you to add the amount from line 8523 of the GIFI (Jump Code: G9367) or any other amount. You will be able to modify this choice for a particular client by overriding the corresponding boxes on line 121 of Schedule 1.
14 - Enable T2 Data Connection
This check box, which is selected by default, allows you to enable the T2 Data Connection for all client files. However, you can only enable the T2 Data Connection when preparing the returns of certain related or associated corporate groups. To use the T2 Data Connection this way, you must first clear the Enable T2 Data Connection check box in the Tax Preparer’s Profile, then select the Enable T2 Data Connection check box in Schedule 9, Related and Associated Corporations Workchart (Jump Code: 9 WORKCHART) when preparing the returns of a related or associated corporate group.
C. Options – Other forms
1 - Federal and provincial instalment schedules
The first check box in this section allows you to print only the instalment table (without the supporting calculations) for all provincial and federal instalments forms. This choice applies to all client files, but you can modify it for a given client file by clearing the To suppress printing of supporting instalment calculations (i.e. print instalment table only – one page) check box in the applicable federal or provincial form(s).
The second check box in this section allows you to choose to apply the current year refund against next year’s instalments for all provincial and federal instalments forms. This choice applies to all client files, but you can modify it for a given client file by clearing the Take into account the amount transferred to instalments when calculating the instalment payments check box in the applicable federal or provincial form(s).
2 – Attached notes summary
The check box Sort the attached notes automatically allows you to enable the automatic sort for the attached notes listed in Form Attached Notes – Summary (Jump Code: ATTN) based on the order the forms appear in the Form Manager. This choice applies to all client files prepared with a preparer profile in which this option has been enabled and cannot be modified for a specific client file.
D. Options – Labels
1 - Printing of labels for:
By default, the program does not print any labels. This subsection allows you to select the type of information you wish to display on the labels for all client files. You can modify this choice for a given client file using the Labels form.
2 - Notice to be printed
This subsection allows you to include the notice “PERSONAL AND CONFIDENTIAL” on each label for all client files. You can modify this choice for a given client file using the Labels form.
