Transfer downloaded data to the corporation's return

Once the TaxprepConnect download has been performed successfully, all data downloaded for the corporation displays on Form TaxprepConnect Download (Jump Code: CONNECT).

Data transfer

Once data has been verified, you can choose, for each section, whether or not you want to transfer the data downloaded for the corporation.

Note: The different sections of Form TaxprepConnect Download respectively present data relating to the following download options

  • Corporation's addresses;
  • Return Balances;
  • Account Balances;
  • Return Data.

To review the downloaded data and select the data that you want to transfer to the return for the Return Data option, access the appropriate forms from the "Return Data" section, located at the bottom of Form TaxprepConnect Download.

To select the data to transfer, select the appropriate check boxes in the Transfer column. Then, click the Transfer button in the top portion of the form.

Once the data is transferred, it will be differentiated from the other data by a different field colour.

The date of the most recent download of data relating to each download option will be displayed in the top portion of Form TaxprepConnect Download and in Form File Identifier Worksheet (Jump Code: FILE).

The CRA T2 Auto-fill service gives you access to data in the returns for the seven most recent assessed years. However, note that it is possible to transfer the downloaded data to the return only if the taxation year covered by the return starts immediately after the taxation year relating to the downloaded data or if the data and the return refer to the same taxation year. You can still download data for the other available taxation years using the TaxprepConnect functionality for consultation purposes.

To determine if the taxation year covered by the return starts immediately after the taxation year relating to the downloaded data, the program verifies if the taxation year start date covered by the return is the day after the taxation year end date relating to the downloaded data, or, on an amalgamation or a wind-up, if the taxation year start date covered by the return corresponds to the taxation year end date relating to the downloaded data. Because no verification is made with respect to the time of the taxation year start or the taxation year end date, make sure that the correspondence between the taxation years is correctly established.

The Select or clear all check boxes located at the beginning of each of the sections of the form allow you to select or to clear all the check boxes of the Transfer column of the section that show differences between the downloaded data and the client file data. These check boxes are also present within each of the forms of the “Return Data” section to allow you to select for transfer the data that show differences in each of these forms. The Select or clear all check boxes only work if the taxation year covered by the return starts immediately after the taxation year relating to data downloaded using the T2 Auto-fill service or if the taxation year start date covered by the return is the day after the taxation year end relating to the downloaded data, because the transfer of data to the return is only possible in these situations.

In addition, note that the taxation year start and taxation year end dates downloaded using the T2 Auto-fill service always include time, even if this information had not been entered when the return was filed, because the CRA adds this information when it assesses the return. When the corporation is not in one of the situations in which time must be added to the taxation year start or end date, it is then normal that the taxation year comprised in the downloaded data includes time and that this data is not indicated in the client file.
