Attach a File
It is possible to attach files to the returns to help with their processing. This functionality enables you to attach any type of file (Word, Excel, PDF, Taxprep, etc.).
To attach a file to a return, proceed as follows:
- In the Return view, display the return to which you want to attach one or more files.
- In the File
menu, click Attached Files.
The Properties dialog box is displayed and the Attached Files tab is selected. - Click , select the file you want
to attach, and click Open.
Note: You can only select one file at a time. - When one or more files are attached, click OK from the Properties dialog box to return to the current return.
All attached files will be listed in the lower portion of the Properties dialog box, under the Attached Files tab. The following information will be indicated for each file:
- the file name (with the file extension, depending on the Windows configuration);
- the file size;
- the eligibility of the file for purposes of the CO-17 transmission (the box relating to the eligibility of the file only displays when the provincial jurisdiction is Québec;
- the type of transmission for which you want to attach a supporting document as well as the type of document to attach to the T2 return;
- the EFILE status of the supporting document attached to the T2 return;
- the choice to roll forward or not the file next year; and
- the "Roll forward" note if the file has been rolled forward.
In addition, tabs allow you to filter the supporting documents based on the type of transmission with which they are associated:
- The All tab allows you to review, add or delete supporting documents for all transmissions.
- The T2 tab allows you to display the supporting documents associated with the T2 transmission. Supporting documents cannot be added or deleted in this tab.
- The CO-17 tab allows you to display the supporting documents associated with the CO-17 transmission. Supporting documents cannot be added or deleted in this tab.

The attached files can be used as supporting documents for returns transmitted using the T2 EFILE. To attach a supporting document to such a return, proceed as follows:
- In the Attached Files tab of the Properties dialog box, under Transmit with, select the CO-17 check box for the files that you want to attach to the return.
- In the Type list, select the type of document to transmit.
- In the Description box, specify the reason why the supporting document is attached to the T2 return.
- Click the T2 tab to review all supporting documents associated with the T2 transmission.
- Click OK.
You can review the EFILE status of a supporting document in the EFILE status column. For more information on the EFILE status of a supporting document, consult the topic EFILE status of a T2 supporting document.
Note
Provide additional information if, in the Type list, you have selected one of the following: Other Choices , Explanatory Notes or Resolution and Agreements . For more information on the document types as well as the required description, consult the topic Types of documents that can be attached to the T2 transmission.
The type or the description of a supporting document cannot be modified when its EFILE status is "Rejected" or "Accepted."
Validation of supporting documents attached to a T2 return
Certain conditions must be complied with in order for the transmission of supporting documents to be possible:
- The filename of each supporting document cannot be more than 150 characters.
- The types of files that can be transmitted are the following: .pdf, .doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx, .rtf, .txt, .jpg, .jpeg, .tiff, .tif and .xps.
- The total size of the supporting documents cannot be more than 150 MB for all supporting documents associated with a T2 transmission (you can add as many supporting documents as necessary, provided the maximum size of 150 MB is complied with).
Attached files can be included during the transmission of a CO-17 return. To transmit these files, proceed as follows:
- In the Attached Files tab of the Properties dialog box, under Transmit with, select the CO-17 check box for the files that you want to attach to the return.
- Click the CO-17 tab to display the supporting documents associated with the CO-17 return.
- Click OK.
Validation of supporting documents attached to a CO-17 return
Certain conditions must be complied with in order for the transmission of supporting documents to be possible:
- The types of files that can be transmitted are the following .gif, .jpg and .pdf. The files of type .jpeg must be renamed with the .jpg extension.
- The maximum size of each supporting document attached to the CO-17 return is set at 30 MB.
