Use the Mapped Drives to Define the Network Locations

By default, Personal Taxprep uses the UNC paths (the format for a UNC path is: \\server\volume\directory\file) to define the network locations. If the configuration of your network requires the use of mapped drives (a mapped drive is a drive designated by a letter, i.e. G:\Clients) to define these locations, you can modify the format used.

To use the mapped drives to define the network locations, proceed as follows:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options and Settings.
  2. Under Options, click Advanced.
  3. Select the Used mapped drives for network locations check box.
A message displays. Read carefully the provided information before continuing.
  4. Click Yes to confirm.
  5. Click OK.
The next network locations you define in Personal Taxprep will include the letter assigned to the drive.

Notes:

  • Changing the format used to define the network locations does not modify the locations already defined. You must define again all the locations to apply a new format.
  • In cases where you use mapped drives to define the network locations and that you share network locations with other users, be sure that all the users assigned the same letters to these locations.
