T2202 - Tuition and Enrolement Certificate

Note: Do not forget to check if the student wants to transfer the maximum amount of tuition fees to a relative.

This form is used to show the maximum tuition amounts that a student can transfer to a designated individual. The programs described below must be taken at a designated educational institution, such as a university or college, or at an institution certified by the Minister of Human Resources and Social Development (HRSD). For definitions of these programs, designated educational institutions and information on the new textbook amount, see pamphlet P105, Students and Income Tax. To claim the tuition amounts for university courses taken outside Canada, your institution has to complete and give you Form TL11A, Tuition Amounts Certificate – University Outside Canada.

A student who has a disability and is enrolled in a qualifying educational program part time can claim the full-time rather than the part-time education amount if the student is entitled to the disability amount for the year or an authorized person certifies in a signed letter that the student is enrolled part time due to a mental or physical impairment. For a student in this situation, select the check box Select this box if the taxpayer is eligible for the disability tax credit or if, during the year, he or she had a mental or physical impairment and a doctor certified that it could not reasonably be expected that the taxpayer could be enrolled as a full-time student because of the effects of his or her impairment, located at the top of the T2202 slip data entry screen. This box is taken into account for the calculation of the education amount in Schedule 11 for the following provinces and territories: Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

The pamphlet P105, Students and Income Tax, is available on our Web site at www.cra.gc.ca/forms.
