Uncoupling

You can uncouple the taxpayer and spouse’s current-year returns or planner returns at any time and create separate client files for each taxpayer’s return. For example, you can uncouple the returns of taxpayers who separated during the year.

When the taxpayer and spouse's returns are uncoupled in a client file, the dependants' returns are saved in both the client file of the taxpayer and spouse's returns.

Notes:

  • The client file containing the spouse's return (and the dependant's, if applicable) is available from the Client list in the Tax Return view; you can select it and display the spouse's data.
  • If you want to keep a copy of the coupled file, save it under another name before uncoupling the returns.
