Early-filed returns

You can file tax returns for the year following the year of the program. However, this option is only available for pre-bankruptcy returns and the returns of deceased persons.

When you prepare the return of a deceased person and the year of death corresponds to the year following the year of the program, a diagnostic indicates that you have to enter the year of death, using an override, in the field “Taxation year” of the Table of Rates and Values Used in the Return (Jump Code: RATES FED), if you want to file the return for that year.

As well, when you prepare a pre-bankruptcy return and the year of bankruptcy corresponds to the year following the year of the program, a diagnostic indicates that you have to enter the year of bankruptcy, using an override, in the field “Taxation year” of the Table of Rates and Values Used in the Return, if you want to file the return for that year.

In both above mentioned situations, the taxation rates, deductions and tax credits used in the return calculations will be those of the year following the year of the program. It consist of the rates that were known on the date of the version release of the program you are using to prepare the return.

Note that early-filed returns cannot be EFILED. They must be paper filed.
