TPF-1.C – Explanations Regarding an Amended Income Tax Return
Starting with the 2018 taxation year, Revenu Québec allows you to electronically transmit an amended TP1 return.
However, should you not be able to electronically transmit the amended TP1 return, two options are available in the program to amend the return:
- As in the past, you can use the Prepare an automatic TP-1.R form functionality to create and print Form TP-1.R, Request for an Adjustment to an Income Tax Return (Jump Code: QTP1R). If you use this functionality, you do not have to complete Form TPF-1.C.
- Revenu Québec now provides another option, i.e. the option to make the modifications in the return and reprint the entire return, including new bar codes, using the “Govt” print format. In this case, it is important to attach the TPF-1.C to your amended TP1 return. In order for the TPF 1.C form to become applicable and print automatically with the “Govt” print format, answer “Yes” to the question Is this an amended TP1 return? on the TPF-1.C form. Also make sure that you enter the comments regarding the amended return.
If, on the T1ADJ or TP-1.R form, you indicated that you want to electronically transmit the amended TP1 return and you entered a comment on the TP-1.R form, the TPF-1.C form will automatically be completed. Otherwise, you will have to answer “Yes” to the question Is this an amended TP1 return? and enter comments using overrides directly in Form TPF-1.C.
Important note about option 2:
In order for the bar codes on the amended TP1 return to be updated correctly when it is printed, the EFILE TP1 status of the return must NOT be “Accepted.”
